Behind the Botanical Garden, we enter the Royal Łazienki Park. It is counting close 74 ha palace and garden complex founded and shaped in the 17th-19th century. Initially, it served as a zoo and hunting place for the Dukes of Mazovia. In the 17th century. the then owner, Stanisław Herakliusz Lubomirski, erected a baroque pavilion on an island surrounded by water canals – Bathrooms (some of its rooms are preserved: Bath Room and Bacchus Room), and in its vicinity there is another pavilion called the Hermitage. After 1864 r., when King Stanisław August Poniatowski became the owner of the park, the area was cleaned up and transformed by building alleys and alleys, new channels, bridges, gazebos and building numerous brick buildings (m.in. Little White House, Myślewicki Palace, Great Oficyna and the Amphitheater). The Łazienki itself was also rebuilt into a summer residence. The building has been significantly enlarged, received a new external façade and a number of representative rooms with rich furnishings (m.in. Ballroom, Picture Gallery, Rotunda) – henceforth known as the Palace on the Island. During the reign of King Stanisław August Poniatowski, Łazienki was teeming with life: numerous shows took place here, the famous "Thursday Dinners" were organized, national activists met here, scientists and representatives of the world of culture. W 1817 r. the palace and garden complex was sold to Tsar Alexander I.. In years 1817-19 some of the facilities were rebuilt and the original area was excluded. 10 ha for the purpose of the Botanical Garden. During World War II, the Palace on the Island was burnt down by the Nazis and prepared for blowing up (made approx. 1000 dynamite holes). After restoration in the post-war years, the palace and garden complex performs museum and exhibition functions: palace on the island (interior museum), Amphitheater with a stage on the island (performances), Little White House (interiors), Old Orange (Stanisławowski Theater and the Gallery of Polish Sculpture), Myślewicki Palace (now a representative object), Cadet school (Museum of Ignacy Jan Paderewski and Polish Emigration in America), Stara Kordegarda (temporary exhibitions), former Cantonist Barracks (Museum of Hunting and Horsemanship). There are, among others, in the park. two interesting monuments: baroque of King Jan III Sobieski – exhibited in 1788 r. wg proj. F. Pincka, and Art Nouveau by Fryderyk Chopin issued in 1926 r. wg proj. Wacław Szymanowski (the project was ready in 1904 r.). In summer, Sunday concerts are held in front of the monument, mainly piano. Visiting Łazienki can be enriched with a stylish gondola ride on the pond and horse riding.
