The Mermaid Monument situated at Wybrzeże Kościuszkowskie (episode of Wisłostrada) near the Syrena Bridge, on the left bank of the Vistula. It was issued in 1939 r. wg proj. Ludwika Nitschowa. It is made of bronze and shows the figure of a mermaid – half female and half fish, holding a sword in her raised hand, in the other, a shield. The model for the head of the monument was Krystyna Krahelska (1914-44) – poetess, author of, among others. popular song of the Warsaw Uprising: "Hey boys, gun bayonet ".
