Palace of Culture and Science. Monumental building erected in the years 1952-56 under the supervision of the Soviet architect Lew Rudniew, situated between Al. Jerozolimskie, ul. Marszałkowska, Świętokrzyska and Emilia Plater. The main entrance is located on the side of ul. Marszałkowska; ma 42 storeys, counts 231 m in height, it is topped with a high spire 43 m. The cubature of the building is over 817 thousand. m3. Ma 3288 rooms with a total area 123 thousand. no. In the upper part there is an observation deck open to tourists. Scientific institutions have their seats in the Palace of Culture and Science, companies, radio and television stations, international institutions, sports, recreational and cultural institutions. The latter group includes the Technical Museum, Evolution Museum, Theaters: Dramatic, Puppet and Studio as well as the Congress Hall used outside concerts and performances for congresses, state conventions and celebrations. The Palace of Culture and Science also hosts fairs and thematic exhibitions.
