Royal Route

We come to the intersection with Al. Jerozolimskie (rondo gen. de Gaullea). On the left, behind the intersection, the building of the former seat of the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers' Party. Built in the years 1948-51 wg proj. Wacław Kłyszewski, Jerzy Mokrzyński and Eugeniusz Wierzbicki. Currently the seat of the "Nowy Świat" Banking and Financial Center. To the east. a group of buildings from the center, built in the years 1926-38, designed by Tadeusz Tołwiński, where the National Museum is located (rich collections of ancient art, medieval and Polish modern art – especially painting) and the Polish Army Museum.

On the right after the de Gaullea roundabout (Al. Jerusalem 7) there is a huge building of the former Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego erected in 1928-35 wg proj. Rudolf Świerczyński and then expanded. Its central break is decorated with bas-reliefs made according to the design. Jan Szczepkowski.

Going further along the Nowy Świat, we come to Trzech Krzyży Square. At the beginning of Warsaw, it was a junction of routes leading from Czersk, Solec and Mokotów. The name refers to the placement here in 1731 r. on two columns of golden crosses starting the Kalwaria Way leading from that square along today's Al. Ujazdowskie and exhibitions in 1756 r. statues of St.. John of Nepomuk holding the cross. In the square, in its central point, there is a classicist parish church. pw. st. Alexander erected in the years 1818-26 wg proj. Christian Piotr Aigner. The church was erected on a circular plan, It is covered with a dome and has two columned porticoes situated on the axis. Inside, in the side altar, there is a marble sculpture "Christ in the tomb" made in the 17th century. in an Italian workshop. After east. side of the square is the neo-renaissance building of the Institute of the Deaf and the Blind, built in the years 1826-27. In the vicinity of the building, the village of 1968 r. statue of the founder of the plant – Father Jakub Falkowski, made according to project. Ferdinand Jarocha. Behind the Three Crosses Square, the Royal Route runs along Al. Ujazdowskie. On the left, at the exit of Aleja, there is a full-figure statue of Wincenty Witos – peasant activist, unveiled in 1985 r., made according to project. Marian Konieczny. The first episode of Al. Ujazdowskie is a row of huge tenement houses. There is a modernist house at no. 34 with the figures of two giants supporting the balcony. It was erected in the years 1904-07 wg proj. Władysław Marconi.

From the intersection with ul. Matejko is visible in the background the building of the Seym and Senate (ul. Rural 2/4/6). The building was created as a result of the reconstruction of the nineteenth-century building of the Alexandrinsky-Mariinsky Institute in 1925-29 wg proj. Kazimierz Skórewicz. At that time, a building in the shape of a half-rotunda and a parliamentary hotel were built. The building is decorated from the outside with a frieze with reliefs by Jan Szczepkowski. W 1947 the Sejm building was extended according to the design. Bohdan Pniewski, and the interiors modernized. In front of ul. Matejko to the west. side of the Royal Route (no 29/31) the seat of the US embassy is located, stylishly different from the old buildings of the Route, erected in 1962 wg proj. W. Beckett.

Before the intersection of Al. Ujazdowskie from ul. The beautiful one is on the left side (No. 6A) Rembieliński Palace (Poznanskie), built in the middle of. XIX w. wg proj. Francis Maria Lanci, and on the right (no 27) Rau's palace, erected in 1868 r. wg proj. Leandro Marconi with sculptural decorations by Leon Kuch-rzewski (currently the Swiss embassy).
