INDUSTRY, AGRICULTURE, FISH BREEDING
The described area is relatively poorly industrialized. Industry is generally concentrated in large urban centers: in Warsaw, Płock, Pruszków and Ostrołęce. Such a distribution of industry is conditioned by the lack of its own resource base, lack of energy sources and a large supply of labor. Established in smaller centers in the 1970s. as part of the so-called. In the deglomeration of industry, numerous branches of large industrial plants usually experience great difficulties in the new economic conditions. The prosperous ones include plants taken over by Western concerns, newly established, mainly with foreign capital the factories, assembly plants, printing houses, bank, telecommunications companies, wholesalers located in large cities and their vicinity, companies that produce a lot for export (textile, food, furniture), construction and road materials factories. Companies that are practically monopolists on the market also thrive, as Mazovia Refinery and Petrochemical Works in Płock.
Farmland occupy close 55% the area in question. These are generally lands of the lower classes. After the collapse of large and large agricultural enterprises, small individual farms prevail. The crops are mainly cereals (rye) and potatoes. Vegetables are planted locally on a large scale (onion, carrot, cabbage), industrial plants (sugar beets, rape), fruit bushes (strawberries, raspberries, currants). Orchards occupy a relatively large area. Among farm animals, pigs are the most numerous. The cattle stock is smaller, and the sheep that are widespread in other parts of the country are rarely kept.
Fish farming is quite well developed in places. It is based almost exclusively on artificial breeding ponds. Mainly carps are bred, to a lesser extent ropes, crucian carp, pike and others.
